ZAMBIA MISSIONS MINISTRY

The Vision

To see every community in the Western Province of Zambia uplifted through strong Christ-centered churches, and to have a church within walking distance of every person in the Western Province.

How we do this

  • Plant new churches in unreached communities
  • Strengthen existing churches through leadership training and development
  • Empower communities
  • Meet urgent social needs
  • Provide opportunities for people both locally and abroad to fulfill their destiny
  • An Overview of the Western Province of Zambia

Zambia’s Western Province is a diverse province distinctly subdivided into seven districts. Mongu serves as the provincial centre and this is where the Zambia Project has its base.

The Western Province in general has been identified by the World Bank Poverty Assessment Study of 1994 as being one of the poorest provinces in the country characterized by a low level of self sufficiency in food production, low cash income, poor marketing and distribution of goods.

The main economic activities of the province include agriculture, cattle marketing, fishing and timber production. With a remarkable 84% of the population living in rural areas, the majority secure a livelihood through crop production, livestock and fishing. The main crops in the province are: Maize, cassava, sorghum, bulrush millet and rice.

The Lozi people are a population group radically untouched by the Gospel for the following reasons:

    Position

The area is cushioned between Zaire in the North, Angola to the West, the Caprivi Strip to the South and 600 Km of barren land to the East making access difficult.

    Belief System

The Lozi people have a very strong family and tribal system that is steeped in witchcraft and animism. As a result of this, to date, their hearts and minds have been closed off to the Gospel.

    Poverty and education

Although the Zambian schooling system as a whole is good, the subsistence lifestyle prevents most of the Lozi people from attending school.

    Health

Malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS, dysentery and a host of other diseases have further prevented the spread of the Gospel. According to the last census the average life expectancy in the Western Province is 29 years.

The above factors, together with a multitude of additional problems which the Lozi people face every day, have crippled the missionary efforts of the past. Many missionaries have laid down their lives looking forward to the day when the Lozi people living in Zambia’s Western Province would open their hearts to God. Today is that day! Where others have sown with their lives, Paul, Marinette, James, Jess, Lihana, Dave & Shontell now have the opportunity to reap – the harvest is finally ripe! The Lozi people are ready to accept the message of hope. Now is the time to spread out our nets for a great catch.

If you feel that you are able to, or would like to, assist with the advancing of the gospel into Western Zambia then your support would be greatly appreciated.
