Day 4: Life To The Full - Jesus didn't Promote Religion

Updated: Mar 8, 2024

A devotion series on the book of John

John 4:20-21

So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?” Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

Day 4 – Jesus didn’t promote religion

“Will I be welcomed there? Are there rules I’m supposed to follow?”

These are the kinds of questions people ask themselves when invited to a church. An invitation to church can be seen as an invitation to join a religion with tons of restrictive protocols.

In John 4, Jesus goes out of his way to deliberately meet a Samaritan woman. His approach shows us that he was not out to promote religion but to invite the woman to a life of satisfaction which comes through genuine connection with God.

True worship is not based on religious rules and regulations, it flows out of a refreshing and rewarding relationship with God.

Think on it:

How can you share your testimony about Jesus in a way that invites people to want to meet with God and not just join a religious gathering?
