Yes I confess I am a recovering hoarder. I am walking a road of great deliverance from the disorder in my garage and the mess in my cupboards. As i type this i am planning a major spring clean at the weekend and how i will be rid of all the mess once and for all. A little voice inside of me is saying thats what you said last time you cleaned out and did a spring clean. Well what has changed is that this time i am going to listen to the advice my wife has been giving me all along. Yes my wife was right, I cant just expect to have a clean orderly space if i don't have an orderly system to follow. i can clean and clean all i want but as long as I don't have a plan to maintain the cleanliness I will always find myself back at square one with a mess again.
It is the same with matters of our hearts, the only way to maintain order in your heart and matters to do with the heart is to be intentional about the issues that your heart has kept cluttered and to find a way to maintain that clean uncluttered environment on a daily basis. Spring cleaning is all well and good but its the maintenance going forward that is the big win.
This reminds me of a story Jesus tells of how we need to maintain order once a house has been cleaned out.
Reflect of the scripture reading below and see how you can use the story to guide you in formulating a practical plan to help keep your heart focused and uncluttered by the issues of life but filled with the goodness of God. Today focus on how you can get rid of toxic relationships but maintain healthy and meaningful relationships. Also think about habits that have taken root in your heart that keep coming back and speak to god about how to declutter your heart and be free of these habits like comparison, laziness or even lustful behaviour.
Then the next couple of days we shall look at practical tips on how you can plan to keep order where your finances are concerned. It is a major heart issue that needs organisation and intentionality on how we can stay focused and uncluttered in our finances so we have a clear path to navigate.
Scripture Meditation
'One day Jesus cast out a demon from a man who couldn’t speak, and when the demon was gone, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed, .....
(Jesus then says:) “When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, searching for rest. But when it finds none, it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds that its former home is all swept and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before.”
".... Blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” '
'Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.” “No,” Peter protested, “you will never ever wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!” Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.” '
